PRESENTATION

Recorded in Spring 2011 at La Blanchisserie, Ivry-Sur-Seine / Mix : Jean-Baptiste Brunhes

Half-way between a soul-like energy, a pop rock feeling and an imaginary soundtrack, Sandra Nkaké is releasing an album of homemade songs. She tells us stories of individual or collective fates that meet, all racked with existential choices.
“Nothing For Granted” is a journey through the energy that all those characters express to define or redefine their destinies. Altogether epic, poetic or explosive, the music conveys their inner self and their cry for freedom.
The album comes from a will to focus on everyday life scenes that make the poetry of it all, and which, from end to end, form the big Story” says Sandra Nkaké who wrote and composed her four-hand-album with her long-standing partner, flautist and producer Jî Drû. During a year, in an apartment transformed into a studio, they imagined and gave birth to those touching, lost, funny, gentle characters: « A little girl spies on adults (Conversation), a young junkie observes her street (Same Reality), a cry for freedom is let out (Mankind), a man refuses fatality and social codes (Like a Buffalo), each of them looking for some form of emancipation and flying away from a world full of norms and prejudices”.
To paint that detailed picture recorded with vintage instruments, Sandra Nkaké is accompanied by Julien Tekeyan (drums), Christophe Minck (bass) and Matthieu Ouaki (guitar). Forming some united and powerful pop rock rythmics, their floating music stand (Jérôme Drû – flute – and Antoine Berjeaut – trumpet, bugle -) takes us into a soundtrack in which we could meet Nancy Sinatra and Tom Waits. Jean-Baptiste Brunhes’ mix (Arthur H, Catherine Ringer, Emily Loizeau, Bertrand Belin…) sends into space this world in which Sandra Nkaké raw and husky voice takes all its fullness.
In this retro/futuristic world, the flawless arrangements and unstoppable groove delineate this young woman’s vision, her wandering and her rebirth: pure pleasure…
